Programs and Services
North Texas Rehabilitation Services (NTRS) empowers individuals with disabilities (our clients) to live more independent lives by providing them with job training, placement and support services.  After completing an evaluative assessment, clients enter a vocational training program that best meets their interests and abilities with the end goal of securing a job in a competitive employment environment.  Programs and services serve adults 18 years or older who have developmental disabilities and related conditions.  These include, but are not limited to, mental retardation, cerebral palsy, physical disabilities, hearing or sight impairments and learning disabilities.

Rehabilitation Programs
NTRS has site-based vocational training centers in Garland and Carrollton, TX.  Clients are referred by private and county Intermediate Care Facilities for the Mentally Retarded (ICF/MR), private and county Home and Community-Based Services (HCS), the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), friends, families, advocates and individuals who may request services for themselves.

Both centers provide assessment and training in:

  • Physical Stamina
  • Peer Relations
  • Ability to Follow Instructions
  • Supervisory Relationships
  • Communications
  • Socialization
  • Other skills important to successful job placement

Garland Area Rehabilitation Center (GARC)
The Garland Area Rehabilitation Center is a site-based vocational training center that offers work opportunities to 200 adults with disabilities in four separate work sites. 

Services are offered Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 3:30pm at the following locations:

Metrocrest Area Rehabilitation Center (MARC)
Metrocrest Area Rehabilitation Center is a site-based, vocational training program in Carrollton, TX that serves an average of 90 individuals per year.

Services are offered Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 3:30pm at the following location:

Habilitation Services:

Metroplex Habilitation Services (MHS) and Metrocrest Habilitation Services -Carrollton
MHS and MHSC provide habilitation, social, recreational, vocational and community inclusion services to adults with mental retardation and other disabilities. The curriculum for these programs is based on daily living responsibilities, community education and skills training. Services are provided both in the community and on our site.  Clients are referred by private and county Intermediate Care Facilities for the Mentally Retarded (ICF/MR), private and county Home and Community-Based Services (HCS), friends, families, advocates and individuals who may request services for themselves.

Services are offered Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 3:00pm at the following locations:

Employment Services:

Career Opportunities Unlimited
Career Opportunities Unlimited is the employment division of NTRS.  Located in Garland, TX, the Career Opportunities Unlimited staff assists clients in finding and keeping jobs all over the Metroplex. 

Services offered through this program include:

  • Career Counseling
  • Job Quest Training
  • Job Placement Assistance
  • Job Coaching/Follow-up Services

Career Opportunities Unlimited staff will work with any consumer who receives services from any entity of NTRS.  Services are offered daily as needed by the consumer and/or the employer.  This division stresses the importance of competitive and supportive employment for those individuals who make that choice.
